Our student clubs
History Club
History Club - every Wednesday during second break.
The History club provides students with opportunities to engage in historical research, develop critical thinking and analysis skills, and explore a wide range of topics in an enjoyable and collaborative environment. This term, students are focusing on a local research project, investigating the war efforts of Leeton residents. In previous terms, the club has created entries for the National History Challenge and the National Archaeology Week competition, as well as explored student-led topics and enjoyed a variety of interactive history games.
Tournament of the Minds
Tournament of the Minds (TOM) is a creative problem-solving competition where students work collaboratively to tackle open-ended challenges in areas such as STEM, The Arts, Social Sciences, and Language & Literature. At Leeton High School, TOM runs during Terms 2–3 in sport time, providing an academic option for students to develop teamwork, creativity, and critical thinking skills. Students compete at the regional competition in Wagga Wagga in August, with successful teams progressing to the state finals in Sydney in September.
Boys to the Bush
Boys to the Bush was established in 2017 by three schoolteachers who were noticing common issues in young men with similar backgrounds. Disconnected, vulnerable and often from a home without the presence of good male role models.
These three teachers (our founders) knew that if they
could give these boys what they each had growing up – strong, positive role models, it could change the course of their lives.
Boys to the Bush focuses on prevention and early
intervention strategies, putting the young man first.
MENtoring, school programs and camps – where it all
began.
Our core strength is our ability to engage the whole
community; farm visits and work experience that
provides a hands-on opportunity to be a part of their
community.
Sista Speak
The Sista Speak program is an initiative that empowers Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander girls by developing their leadership, self-esteem, resilience, and cultural connection through activities and mentorship.
It achieves this through a combination of cultural activities, health and wellbeing support, goal setting, and educational workshops that cover topics like mental health, self-esteem, and positive relationships. The program is designed to empower young women to explore their identity and set positive goals for their future.
Yindyamarra Girls Group
The Yindyamarra Girls Group is a vibrant school initiative designed to empower young Aboriginal girls by deepening their cultural awareness and understanding. The group is open to Aboriginal girls from Years 7 to 10 and provides a safe, inclusive space where they can explore and celebrate their rich cultural heritage.
Yindyamarra Girls Group maintains a close partnership with our Aboriginal Youth Liaison Officer. This connection provides participants with guidance, support, and advocacy, ensuring the girls have access to resources that support their wellbeing and success both inside and outside school.
Through these activities and connections, the Yindyamarra Girls Group aims to empower Aboriginal girls, helping them to develop confidence, resilience, and a strong sense of identity as they navigate their educational and personal journeys.
SSO Groups
At Leeton High School, students are encouraged to take part in a range of wellbeing and resilience programs, including MyStrengths, Seasons for Life, RAGE, Junk Journaling and Resilience-Bounce Forward.
These programs are designed to nurture self-awareness, strengthen problem-solving skills and empower students to approach life's challenges with confidence and purpose.
Janette also offers the Restorative program, which supports students to rebuild friendships, strengthen connections, and find positive ways to move forward when things don't go as planned. It's all about understanding, respect and helping everyone feel supported and valued at school.
Through these initiatives, students are provided with meaningful guidance and support throughout their school day, while being encouraged to set personal goals that promote balance, growth and overall wellbeing. These experiences help our young people develop the inner strength to stand tall against the pressures of the world around them, to face challenges with courage, empathy and determination. By engaging in these programs, our students not only build resilience but also discover their potential to flourish academically, socially and personally.
