Debating

It has been a busy time for Premier's Challenge Debating stage five and stage four.

On Monday 6th June, Montana Bell, Tyler Dunn, Dearne Hunter-Boyd, Cate Mooney-Rapley  from year ten, and, Elise Holt, Acadia Lee, Tarnya Schmidt, and Molly Wright from year nine, went to Coolamon where each team had debates against Yanco Agricultural High School and Coolamon Central School. The debating categories included Education and Sport. Even though some of our debaters were inexperienced, we won all debates and our A and B team have to debate each other in order to determine the winner of our zone. That team will then go on to debate in the quarter finals of the Riverina Region.

Then on Thursday 9th June, Amelie Sachs, Kaila DePaoli, Abbey Snell and Grace Kokke from year eight, and, Katelyn Mills, Emily Wright, Maria Tynan and Portia Marks from year seven, travelled to Narrandera for two debates. The debating categories included Education and the Media. As part of the audience for the year eight debate the year sevens picked up some valuable skills from the fantastic year eight debaters. Last year these girls were the Stage four Riverina Champions and went to Sydney for the State final.

It was pointed out by the adjudicator on the day that debating is all about convincing the adjudicator that the arguments they put up were the best. Both A and B teams were convincing, and both won their debates. They have further debates against Temora and then LHS A team against LHS B team, which will determine the Zone winners. The students thought it was a great day.
